Glossary

This glossary defines the core terms and node types used throughout the application.

All terms are described as they are used within this system.
Some terms may differ from their everyday meaning or from how they are used in other systems.

Node

A node is the fundamental building block of the system.

Each node represents a single entity, configuration element, request, or resource.
Nodes are rendered by the system and may hold data, configuration, or state.

Nodes always exist within a node tree.

Node tree

A node tree is a hierarchical structure composed of connected nodes.

It defines how nodes are organized, related, and rendered by the system.
Some nodes in a tree may also maintain state that affects their behavior or visibility.

Node state

Node state describes the current condition of a node.

Depending on the node type, this may include states such as:

  • Active
  • Inactive
  • Disabled
  • Pending

Node state may influence whether a node is rendered, usable, or selectable in the system.

Entity nodes

Entity nodes represent real-world or logical entities managed by the system.

Person

A Person node represents an individual known to the system.

It typically serves as the central entity to which references, credentials, cards, and access rights are associated.

Reference

A Reference node represents a link or association to another entity, system, or external identifier.

References are used to connect nodes without duplicating data, and will normally point to the original.

Organization Unit

An Organization Unit node represents a structural grouping within an organization.

It is used to organize people, resources, and permissions hierarchically.

Smart Card

A Smart Card node represents a physical RFID card issued to a person.

It may be associated with access rights, card designs, and printing workflows.

Client Credentials

Client Credential nodes represent authentication or authorization credentials used by external systems or integrations.

They define how external clients interact with the system.

Configuration nodes

Configuration nodes define how the system behaves and is initialized.

Onboarding

An Onboarding node defines configuration related to the initial setup or introduction of users, entities, or credentials into the system.

System Configuration

A System Configuration node defines global settings that affect the behavior of the entire system.

Pincode Configuration

A Pincode Configuration node defines rules and behavior related to PIN codes used within the system.

Default Card Design Configuration

A Default Card Design Configuration node defines the default visual design applied when creating new smart cards.

Request nodes

Request nodes represent actions that require approval, processing, or review by an admin.

Access Request

An Access Request node represents a request for access to one or more resources.

It typically moves through a defined lifecycle from creation to resolution.

Card Request

A Card Request node represents a request to issue or replace a smart card.

Picture Change Request

A Picture Change Request node represents a request to update a person’s picture.

Resource nodes

Resource nodes represent physical or logical assets that access or permissions may apply to.

Building

A Building node represents a physical building.

Device

A Device node represents a physical device managed by the system.

Door

A Door node represents a physical access point.

Floor

A Floor node represents a level within a building.

Locker

A Locker node represents a secure storage unit.

Room

A Room node represents a physical room within a building.

Zone

A Zone node represents a logical grouping of resources.

Location

A Location node represents a geographic or logical place used to group resources.

Reference nodes

Reference nodes represent reusable definitions used across the system.

Person

A Person Reference node represents a specific relationship between a Person and a Reference.

It defines how an external or internal reference is associated with a given person.

Can Apply

An Can Apply node represents how a user may apply for access to a given ressource.

Access

An Access node represents a definition of access rights or permissions to a ressource that can be granted to a person.

Card Design Package

A Card Design Package node represents a layout that can be used when printing cards.

Printing nodes

Printing nodes represent components involved in card printing.

Card Printer Hub

A Card Printer Hub node represents a central service responsible for managing multiple card printers and putting them under one roof.

Card Printer

A Card Printer node represents a physical printer used to produce smart cards.

Permission-related nodes define what actions can be performed in the system by a specific entity.

Audit Log

An Audit Log node represents recorded system events and actions for traceability and compliance.

Card Printing Permission

A Card Printing permission node defines access rights related to card printing operations.

Request Permission

A Request permission node defines access rights related to creating or processing requests.

Resource Permission

A Resource permission node defines access rights related to managing or accessing resources.

System Configuration Permission

A System Configuration permission node defines access rights related to modifying system-wide settings.
