Print Card
This workflow shows how to print a smart card in the system.
Goal
The goal of this workflow is to print a smart card so it can be issued and later activated for access.
Printing a card is typically done after a request has been approved and the card is ready to be produced.
Who can perform this workflow
This workflow is restricted, and you must have the correct permissions to complete it.
To perform this workflow, you must either: - Be a system administrator - Have the required permissions to manage smart cards or credentials
Preconditions
- The person and card request must already exist in the system
- The card request must be approved before printing is allowed
- A card printer device must be configured and available
- You must have the required permissions to manage the card

Workflow steps
There are multiple ways to print cards.
Method 1 - Print directly from a printer
- Navigate to the devices page
- Press on the printer node in the tree
- Press the Print Card button and notice a slideover has appeared
- Select one or multiple people and press next
- Select a card design package from the list and press print card(s)
- Confirm that the card(s) are being printed by navigating to the All print jobs section
Method 2 - Ready to print from a printer
- Navigate to the devices page
- Press on the node in the tree that is named Card Printing
- Navigate to the Ready to print section
- Find the relevant card request in the table and start the workflow by clicking on the request
- Select a card design from the slideover
- Press the button that says Print Card
- Confirm that the card(s) are being printed by navigating to the All print jobs section
Method 3 - Print from a person
- Navigate to the organization units & persons page
- Find the relevant person in the node tree
- Navigate to the details section
- Press the Print card(s) button
- Notice an overlay has appeared and select the desired printer you want to use and press next
- Select a card design package
- Press the button that says Print Card
- Confirm that the card(s) are being printed by navigating to the All print jobs section
Method 4 - Requests page
- Navigate to the requests page
- Navigate to the Ready to print section
- Find the relevant request in the table and start the workflow by clicking on the request
- Press the button that says print
- Notice an overlay has appeared where you can select the desired printer, then press next
- Select a card design package
- Press the button that says Print Card
- Confirm that the card(s) are being printed by navigating to the All print jobs section
Method 5 - Multiple requests
- Navigate to the requests page
- Navigate to the Ready to print section
- Find the relevant requests in the table and start the workflow by clicking one or more checkboxes to the left on the row
- Press the button in the top right that says Print
- Select the desired printer in the slideover and press Next
- Select a card design package
- Press the button that says Print Card
- Confirm that the card(s) are being printed by navigating to the All print jobs section
Result
- A print job is created for the card
- The card is marked as printed in the system
- The card is ready to be activated
- A notification is shown to confirm the action
Failure cases and validation
- Missing permissions
- The printer is offline or unavailable
- The card request is in an invalid state
- Network errors
- Backend or server errors
